INDEX to a Sampling of Marriages, Deaths and Odds and Ends as listed in
the Warren Journal Belvidere, Warren County, NJ
Note: "Inst." means "instant", and
refers to the current month. "Ult." means "ultimo", which means "in
the last month."
In January,
2001, I obtained from Rutgers Microform Library, through inter-library
loan, the first two microfilms of the Warren Journal, published in Belvidere,
New Jersey. Since the loan period is only one week, and since I have
this annoying need to work for a living, I was unable to spend enough time
in the library to copy all the entries for the 10-year period from 1848-1858.
What I tried to do was to photocopy those pages with long lists of marriages
and/or deaths, to hand write those pages with only one or two entries,
and to regretfully ignore pages with a small handfull of entries.
Of course, I copied all pages which had entries with my surnames or those
of folks who have written to ask me to keep an eye out for their surnames. As for
the "Odds and Ends", I tried to select a random sampling of items which
listed names of the residents, items which gave dates to dedications of
churches or other construction, items that made me laugh, or items that
seemed to me to reflect the signs of the times. I'm optimistically
beginning an "Index" page in hopes of putting more and more years of the
Warren Journal here. Please continue to write me to let me know what
surnames I should be watching for.
