Pat Smith, who grew up in Phillipsburg, sent this information about the bridge:

"Delaware River Bridge----------taken from the Easton side of the Delaware. This bridge was destroyed in the Aug-Sept 1955 flood caused by hurricane Diane(?).  A railroad box car floated down the river and hit the bridge broadside."  "The bridge was eventually rebuilt but we had a Army pontoon bridge there for quite a while."
