Counties

Warren County was split from Sussex County in 1824

Sussex County was split from Morris in 1753

Over the years other towns and township were formed from the

Allamuchy Township from Independence Township in 1873

The borough of Alpha, from part of Pohatcong in 1911

The town of Belvidere, from Oxford township, on March 19, 1845

Blairstown Township from Knowlton Township in February 1845 and from
parts of the townships of Frelinghuysen and Hardwick in 1881
-
Franklin Township from the townships of Mansfield, Greenwich and Oxford
on Feb. 15, 1839
-
Frelinghuysen Township from Hardwick Township on March 7, 1848
-
The town of Great Meadows was originally known as Danville.
-
Hackettstown Township from Independence Township in 1853. The
boundary line between it and Mansfield was altered in 1857 and again in
1872. Both in 1860 and in 1875 it received additions from parts of
Mansfield.

Harmony from parts of the townships of Greenwich and Oxford on Feb.
15, 1839.

Hope Township, from the townships of Oxford and Knowlton in 1839.

Liberty Township, from Hope Township in 1926.

Lopatcong Township, was first know as Phillipsburg Township until March
18, 1861. Lopatcong lost part of its territory to the Town of Phillipsburg
in 1903.

Franklin Township Vital records, starting in 1848 to 1885.

The Helen Potter Alleman Collection. Helen Potter Alleman (1895-1967),
Washington, NJ, developed a substantial collection
of genealogical information during her lifetime. Her interest
began with research on her own family and progressed to searching on other
lines, particularly those in the Warren County Area.

The Warren P. Coon Collection. 20,000 cards on families of Sussex
and Warren Counties, files in alphabetical order. Primarily 19th
century.

The Collection of the New Jersey Chapters of the N.S.D.A.R. (Daughters
of the American Revolution). These books include many
volumes of research information on Warren County. Included
in these books are the Warren County Tombstone inscriptions.

National archives in Washington, D.C. are missing. During the
war of 1812 the capital was burned along with the records.
When they went back to the states to recopy the records, all
